Planning success at The Quarters
Planning was granted for the residential development ‘The Quarters’ on Grimshaw Street this week.
With no objections from the consultees this new block of 28 apartments, on behalf of Pillars Construction Ltd and Smith & Love acting as planning consultant, will see the current open surface car park be developed into studio, one-bed and two-bed flats.
Taking into consideration the varied architectural styles around the site, the team at David Cox Architects provided a sensitive design which accommodated the adjacent Grade II Listed buildings. The Gothic style Seventh Day Adventist Church, dating from 1857-59, and Grimshaw Street School, dating from approximately 1840, will retain their rightful focus on the streetscape due to The Quarters being designed to both subtly step-down in height and gradually staggered back into the site.
David Cox commented “Receiving the green light on this scheme has been welcomed by the project team. Not only will the development create new contemporary apartments in the City, but also shows commitment to hopefully kick start wider regeneration on Grimshaw Street and the Horrocks Quarter.”
The design provides a viable option on a site which has had a number of planning applications over the years, and the resulting development will assist with the continuing demand for residential accommodation in Preston.
