Celebrating Preston’s first Certified Passive House Designer

Architect, Helen Knott, has taken the mantle of Preston’s first Certified Passive House Designer.

The certification, and knowledge gained during the course which resulted in a Passive House Institute exam, enables Helen to deliver Passivhaus standards and methodologies which provide a high level of occupant comfort using very little energy for heating and cooling.

Buildings are a significant culprit of carbon emissions – accountable for 35% of total global energy consumption. Adopting an efficient first approach is crucial to meeting carbon targets. Passivhaus adopts a whole-building approach with clear, measured targets, focused on high-quality construction, certified through an exacting quality assurance process.

Helen commented, “We have more and more clients enquiring about energy efficient buildings and having the expertise to provide Passive House design knowledge adds an extra layer to our strong environmental design toolkit. Use of the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) also allows for accurate design modelling and provides results against heating demand and loads, thermal comfort and primary energy demand for the whole building.”
